With great community support, the Rotary Club of Christchurch Sunrise transformed two safe house rooms into bright happy and effective spaces for women on their journey to living a violence-free life.
The Rotary Club of Christchurch Sunrise received a call-to-action to refurbish two community rooms - a group learning room and children’s room - within a Christchurch BWT safe house. Previously these rooms were dark with bulky old furniture arranged on a patchy carpet. A lack of storage meant the rooms were not fit for purpose.

The Club project team created a project design, scope of works and schedule of costs. A big effect was made to calls and visited local businesses, explaining the project and asked for special discounts on products. Many tradespeople offered to work on the project for free. The two rooms had a complete makeover with repainting, new carpets, modern blinds, and brightly coloured chairs

The BWT were thrilled with the result and now use the ‘group room’ for their staff meetings and activities for the women in addition to being a gathering space for women on their journey to living a violence-free life.
